OWGS Halford Hewitt 2014
In April, our Halford Hewitt team had early success at Royal St George’s. Round one was against Stonyhurst, and Whitgift ran out 5-0 winners; nonetheless it was fairly tense as three of the matches had to go down the 18th before being decided. The second round opponents were Charterhouse, traditionally very strong. That didn’t faze Stuart Hollins’ team! Whitgift won a high quality and exciting match 3-2 to record a rare victory against a team which has won the Hewitt on several occasions in the past. Unfortunately, an equally close encounter in round three, this time against Mill Hill at Deal, was lost by the same score, 3-2, but overall it was an encouraging week. Again, there was evidence of the talent emerging from the school golf academy; James Beck participated for the first time, and won all three of his matches, paired with the experienced Peter Hedges.
