Autumn Collection 201420/11/2014
This year’s programme continues to include an eclectic assortment of musical styles to inspire both audience and pupils alike.
With a rousing brass spectacular, an entrancing encounter with Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, for piano and orchestra, and ‘soulful’ renditions from one of our most popular choral ensembles, this spectacular event showcases the wealth and breadth of Music at Whitgift. It’s handkerchiefs at the ready for our wonderful First Form choir’s contribution, as they perform a new work by our resident composer, Mr William Church. This year, marking the centenary of the outbreak of World War I, the music will combine original settings of war poetry, along with more familiar tunes from the period.
The Concert also features the exhilarating Roman Carnival Overture by Berlioz, and a dazzling, massed string performance of Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins. This event is sure to light a fire in all our hearts, and promises to be a wonderful whole-school musical event.
