….. alternatively, it is Sky’s ‘Pro Tracker’ tracing the arc of yet another shot from your secretary finding its way into the Ashdown Forest! Faced with a forecast of ‘isolated showers’, 24 golfers took to either Ashdown’s Old Course or the West Course on Sunday 8th September. None emerged dry! It poured – with isolated dry patches!! Nothing however could dampen the spirits of John Butler, who raced away with the newly presented Autumn Cup (see below, flanked by Mike Spanswick and Mike Berners Price). Forensic reconstruction of John’s somewhat wet scorecard indicated that he scored a fabulous 38 points playing off a reduced handicap of 17 on the West course. Peter Blok (34) and Andrew Collis (33) took the other prizes. Everyone enjoyed the more controllable showers in the clubhouse and Ashdown’s amazing 3-course supper, supplemented by wine donated by Mike Spanswick. This was Mike’s last meeting as President of OWGS – thanks Mike for all you have done as President, for a great day out at Ashdown, and for the wine!
