NEW! The WA Wine Club
In time for Summer – and in very good time for Christmas!
FOLLOWING the great and continuing success of our ‘Own Label’ WA Claret, we are delighted to announce the launch of the WA Wine Club.
In association with renowned fine wine importer, Ellis of Richmond, founded in 1822 and still controlled by the Ellis family, the Club’s philosophy will be to source and offer exclusive wines from all over the world whilst being constantly on the look out for new and innovative wines that you will not find on the high street.
There is no joining fee, nor do you have to sign up to purchase on a regular basis. Just keep an eye on the WA website (www.whitgiftianassociation.co.uk) for current offers and order when it suits you.

NOTES ON YOUR WINES
WA ‘Own Label’ Claret
The Cave Bel-Air is owned by Maison Sichel, one of Bordeaux`s premier negociants. The Cave controls some 200 hectares of vines, working closely with the growers to produce high quality fruit, by controlling yields and the timing of the harvest.
From the beautiful deep red colour with purple tints, there are black fruit aromas (blackberry and blackcurrant) with hints of spice. On the palate, generous extract and juicy fruit flavours, rounded and full. The wine is underpinned by strong tannic structure, which lets the full fruity expression show through.
Food – Perfect with a cheese board, or meats such as steak or roast chicken.
ES Vino Malbec 2014-15
Produced by the acclaimed Finca Sophenia winery in Tupungato from their estate grown fruit. Vinified and blended to produce a soft easier styled red wine. Attractive red colour with violet hues and aromas of ripe fruit, cherries, blackberries and blueberries combined with spicy and floral hints. In the mouth the sweet and round tannins increase its fruit sensation and balance. A wine of good intensity, concentration and a long after taste.
Food – Perfect with a steak and BBQ meats both in spicy and sweet sauces.
Bodegas Ramon Bilbao Rioja Crianza 2012-13
Made from 100% Tempranillo from vineyards in Haro and surrounding areas. After fermentation the wine was aged for 14 months in American oak casks, followed by another 8 months in bottle in Ramon Bilbao`s underground cellars. Bright, deep, and cherry-red in colour with intense aromas of blackberries accompanied with more mature notes of liquorice and leather. It is fresh and pleasant in the mouth with a velvety texture and a long finish.
Food – Try with cold meats and light cheeses.
De Wetshof Chardonnay Bon Vallon (unwooded) 2015-16
Danie de Wet pioneered this noble cultivar in South Africa and this Chardonnay is a fresh and expressive, unwooded version. The nose is delicate with aromas of lemon, honey blossom and peach. The wine was matured on its lees to produce a vibrant, lemony dry wine with a yeasty and delicate nutty finish. With typical attention to detail, Danie’s wife Lesca has designed classic packaging for this distinctive wine.
Food – Goes well with Caesar Salad or seared salmon or tuna, equally, it will complement grilled or roasted white meats and pan-fried duck.
Domaine Bougrier Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2015
This estate Sauvignon is grown on sandy soils in Touraine, and especially in Saint Georges sur Cher, where the vineyards also benefit from the mildness of the river Cher and from the sunny climate of the Loire Valley. A bright gold in colour with green tints. The nose is aromatic with characteristic citrus, blackcurrant leaf and floral scents. In the mouth there is ripe gooseberry and herbal notes, a fresh citrus acidity leads into a clean and crisp finish.
Food – A fresh aperitif and good accompaniment to poached trout, shellfish, goat`s cheese salad and Asian stir fry.
Tenuta Neirano Gavi 2015
Made from Piedmont’s native Cortese vines grown in the commune of Gavi in the south of the region. Light, pale yellow in colour, the aroma is perfumed with aromas of honeysuckle and almonds. The palate is beautifully balanced, with citrus fruit flavours and white blossom, finishing with a distinct bittersweet sensation.
Food – A good match for smoked salmon, shellfish and white meat dishes.
Don’t forget you can still order our ever-popular WA Claret by the case or half case – now at the reduced price of £120 and £65 respectively.
